Are you living a holy life? Do you have teens
in your home? If so then you are blessed because they can help
you become more like Christ.
Chances are you're thinking I've lost my mind, right? In reality
I've found that a teen or two in the home can be an incredible
experience and
a great aid in living a godly, holy life.
If you are a typical parent you probably have had those moments
when you wondered how these hormone filled creatures ended up in
your home. Surely they escaped from some distant planet, or
possible out of Area 51.
The truth is
God uses these wonderful kids to teach us about
ourselves and to help us along the road to holy living.
Assuming you love your kids and are raising them in a wholesome,
godly environment,
you can learn a great deal from those brief
moments when they take notice that you also live at their house.
If you watch your teens carefully you'll often see a reflection
of
your own attitudes creeping from beneath those
interesting clothing choices. You need to pay special attention
during those moments. Your teens are showing you glimpses of
truth about yourself; the good, the bad, and the not so pretty.
God calls each of us to live holy lives. That
includes our thoughts, actions, word choices, opinions, etc.,
etc. If you are seeing things in your teen's life that need
correcting, you may want to take a moment to
examine your own life as well. Chances some of
those interesting views
came directly from watching you. After all, you
have been teaching them their entire lives and have had the
greatest influence in who they are becoming.
That's actually
an awesome reality! God trusted you enough to
let you raise his children. Wow!
So take some
time to study these teenaged teachers from God. They will show
you what needs work in your own life. They can also show you how
to take things a little less seriously, how to laugh about silly
things, how to play hard and work less (tempered with
discretion), and how to get excited about little things in life,
just to name a few.
You have to do the homework. It's doubtful
your teens even know they can influence your life towards holy
living.
They are a blueprint from God showing some of
your greatest obstacles. Pay attention to the details and you
can see realities you would have missed without a teen to guide
you.
If your goal is to live a holy life then
you can use all the help God provides. This is
no small task and will take a lifetime to achieve. Let your
teens teach you some of your short comings and you could find
yourself a step further along in God's plan for your life.
Oh, and don't forget to teach this to your teens as well. They
may not listen but
they will be watching.
